As the Israeli military intensifies its bombing campaign in Gaza, resulting in hundreds of civilian deaths—including women, children, and journalists—the world must confront the catastrophic consequences of militarized solutions to political conflict. I would argue that the ongoing occupation and disproportionate use of force by Israel are both morally indefensible and strategically disastrous. The indefinite control of more than 70% of the Gaza Strip, alongside forced displacement of civilians, amounts to collective punishment and a violation of international law. I call for an immediate, unconditional ceasefire, robust humanitarian aid, and a renewed commitment to Palestinian self-determination and human rights, while critiquing Western governments for their complicity and failure to hold Israel accountable.
